City of Elgin Acquires 4,800 Face Coverings For Distribution To Seniors

The city of Elgin has acquired 4,800 face coverings that have been or will be distributed to senior citizens in Elgin through Senior Services Associates, Inc.

On Tuesday, March 26, Elgin police officers and firefighters provided the donation to Minnie Vasquez, activity director at Senior Services Associates, Inc.

“We are very excited to have the ability to provide masks to the seniors we serve and we thank the city of Elgin for this caring donation,” Vasquez said.

In addition to fulfilling requests for masks, Vasquez intends to provide a mask in each of the 100 activity bags Senior Service Associates, Inc. will be distributing in June.

Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley and Fire Chief Robb Cagann said Elgin Mayor David Kaptain was instrumental in helping obtain the face coverings.

“We have been longstanding partners with Senior Services Associates, and we enjoy serving our seniors in any way we can,” Lalley said. “We look forward to seeing everyone in person as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Representatives from the police and fire departments also personally delivered face coverings to Elgin residents Dee Connors and Kathy Kemp, each of whom requested assistance in obtaining masks from Senior Service Associates, Inc.

“We need to take care of all our residents,” Kaptain said.

The face coverings were obtained from the U.S. Conference of Mayors, which received the donations from Bella+Canvas.
