Thursday-Afternoon Crash in St. Charles Township Takes Life of Driver; Passenger Airlifted

A driver was killed and his passenger had to be airlifted after a single-car crash Thursday afternoon in unincorporated St. Charles Township.

According to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, a silver Chevy Trailblazer driven by Austin B. Johnsen, 25 of Creston, IL, was traveling north on Fox River Drive at around 4:10 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 27, 2020) when it swerved off the road and struck a tree on the west side of the roadway, south of the intersection with Weber Drive.

Johnsen and his passenger, 26-year-old Marcus E. Holtman of Sycamore, were ejected from the Trailblazer, officials said.

Johnsen was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Holtman was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.
