An Aurora man died in a crash in downtown Aurora early Sunday morning after running a red light and fleeing from a traffic stop.
Mark S. Brown, 47, died shortly after 2 a.m. in a crash at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Benton Street.
According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office news release, a Kane County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Brown that ran a red light at Broadway (IL Route 25) and Ashland Avenue.
Brown’s vehicle accelerated and failed to stop for the deputy’s emergency lights and siren.
The deputy discontinued his attempt to stop the vehicle, but a short time later, Brown’s vehicle struck another vehicle at the intersection of Broadway and Benton Avenue in Aurora.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.
The Kane County Major Crimes Unit and the Aurora Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.
