Mayor Richard Irvin Bobbleheads Available Feb. 1

Under the category of “now there’s something you don’t see every day” and perhaps “he’s a good sport” comes the news that Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin will have his very own bobblehead, available at the Aurora Historical Society gift shop on Feb. 1, 2019.

Just in time for African American History Month, the bobblehead commemorates the fact that Irvin made history in 2017 when he was elected as the city’s first African American mayor, according to an Aurora Historical Society news release.

The figures will sell for $30 plus tax. Historical Society members receive a 10 percent discount.

Irvin will autograph them on Feb. 1, during First Fridays festivities at the Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer, 60505.  The shop will be open for the event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The mayor will be on hand until 7 p.m.

Regular hours for the shop are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The collectibles will also be available online at

Other attractions on Feb. 1 will be “Aurora From the Air”, an exhibit of aerial images of Aurora from 1867-2013, which continues through Feb. 23, and a mini photo exhibit celebrating the 170th anniversary of the Burlington Northern Railroad in Aurora, which continues through April.
