The city of St. Charles is closing the north lane of the Illinois Street bridge as construction begins on streetscape improvements adjacent to the building under construction at the corner of Illinois Street and the Fox River.
The lane closure is expected to last five weeks while excavation, curb removals, electrical work, and installation of the streetscape takes place.
The streetscape features will include lighting fixtures, benches, as well as plantings and landscape improvements along the river. The improvements are part of the ongoing First Street Redevelopment Project.
“We are excited about the continuing progress with the First Street project,” said City Administrator Mark Koenen. “These ongoing improvements will provide St. Charles with a signature shopping, living, and recreational area along our scenic river.”
