A black plastic container found on a Metra train in Elburn this morning was not a bomb, but trains were delayed as the container was removed and inspected by the Kane County Bomb Squad.
According to a news release from Elburn Police Chief Nick Sikora, Elburn police were contacted by Metra officials at around 7:18 a.m. (Friday, Dec. 8, 2017) regarding a suspicious black plastic container that was found on a train at the Elburn commuter station.
The container was removed from the train after an initial inspection, and members of the Kane County Bomb Squad assisted at the scene using a portable X-ray unit to confirm that no dangerous contents were in the case, the news release said.
“We were able to confirm that the case and contents had been left on the train by a commuter and have made arrangements to have that picked up by the owner,” Sikora said.
The investigation of the incident did cause some delays with the morning commuter rail service.
