Want to earn some extra money, do your civic duty and help make sure Kane County property assessments are fair and accurate for all?
Kane County is seeking to appoint qualified individuals to serve as additional members of the Kane County Board of Review.
The Illinois Property Tax Code permits counties to appoint qualified additional members to the Board “for the sole purpose of holding separate hearings on complaints” (35 ILCS 200/6-25). Persons who meet the statutory requirements and are appointed to the board are paid $125 for each half-day served.
In order to be eligible for such an appointment, one must be “qualified by experience and training in property appraisal and property tax administration” (35 ILCS 200/6-5), and successfully pass an examination administered by the Illinois Department of Revenue (35 ILCS 200/6-10).
Persons who meet the first condition for eligibility are invited to take the state examination, which will be administered by the Illinois Department of Revenue at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017. The examination will be held in the auditorium of Building A of the Kane County Government Center, 719 Batavia Avenue in Geneva.
Persons taking the examination may wish to review the Board of Review Basic Course as prepared by the Department of Revenue; a copy of the course material is available at www.revenue.state.il.us/LocalGovernment/PropertyTax/PTAX-1-BR.pdf.
Seating for the examination is limited. To register for the examination or to learn more information, please contact Sandra Orlando at 630-208-3818.
