Coroner’s Office ID’s 23-Year-Old Elgin Man Struck By Train

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the 23-year-old man who was killed last week when he was struck by a commuter train in Elgin.

According to a Coroner’s Office news release, the deceased was identified as Devon Colwell of Elgin.

The Coroner’s Office reported to the the intersection of Kimball Street and IL Route 31 in the northwest part of Elgin at around 1:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, to a report of a 23-year-old man struck by a Metra train, the release said.

Metra officials said the Milwaukee District/West Line train No. 2238 struck Colwell at about 1:30 p.m. at Kimball Street, located between Metra’s Big Timber station and the Elgin station.

The Coroner’s Office said toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab. The investigation is being handled by the Metra Police Department and the Elgin Fire Department.
