The Empire Road Culvert Improvement program is scheduled to begin the week of July 6, 2015. Construction work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 pm. each day, with an anticipated duration of two months, weather permitting.
|Empire Road||Illinois Route 47||Burlington Road|
The culvert improvement process will include:
- Insertion of lining into the existing 2-by-84-inch corrugated pipe culverts and construction of gabion basket walls to reduce bank erosion.
- Replacement of the existing crossroad corrugated pipe culvert with a new 48” RCP culvert with upstream drop box structure and new downstream modular block retaining wall.
- Concrete repair inside the culvert and removal and vertical extension of the existing head wall and wing walls to accommodate the addition of shoulders and guardrail.
This work will require a full road closure of Empire Road with an anticipated duration of two months at the culvert locations, located between Illinois Route 47 and Burlington Road.
A posted detour route will direct traffic around the closure using IL Route 47 and Burlington Road. Local access to homes and businesses located within the construction zone will be maintained during this work.
The public is advised to follow the posted detour route around the project and to expect increased travel times. Please watch for Road Work Ahead signs, flaggers, and reduce speed while traveling through the construction zone. Motorists should expect delays, increased travel times during the construction process, and are advised to consider alternate routes during the work.
