Patrolling the Preserves - Kane County Mounted Rangers
For over 40 years, the Kane County Mounted Rangers have volunteered their time and skills to support the Forest Preserve District of Kane County. These dedicated individuals patrol forest preserves on horseback, assist visitors, promote public safety, and participate in community events throughout the year.
The Forest Preserve District is currently seeking experienced riders, age 21 and older, who own or have access to a horse and are interested in serving their community while enjoying the natural beauty of Kane County's preserves and neighborhoods.
Requirements:
Riders must be able to transport their horse to patrols and events.
A minimum of 30 volunteer service hours per year is required. Rangers can choose from a variety of patrols and events to fit their schedules.
Applicants must attend a Forest Preserve volunteer orientation and participate in a barn visit to evaluate riding skills and horse temperament.
Monthly Informational Meetings:
Interested applicants are encouraged to attend one of the monthly Mounted Ranger meetings, held on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Creek Bend Nature Center, located within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles.
Benefits of Joining:
Access to Kane County Forest Preserves as a uniformed Mounted Ranger
Opportunities to ride alongside like-minded volunteers in parades, public meet-and-greet events, and group trail rides
