Kane County Board Member and County Agriculture Committee Chair Leslie Juby and Elburn Village President Jeff Walter competed in the 25th Annual Kane County Farm Bureau Shopping Spree on Feb. 16 at the Jewel-Osco on Randall Road in Batavia.
The timed event gives local officials several minutes to move through the store and collect as many groceries as possible for food pantries they choose to support. All items are purchased by the Kane County Farm Bureau and donated.
Juby, representing the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry in Aurora, secured $1,862.06 in groceries. Walter, representing the Elburn-Countryside Food Pantry in Elburn, secured $1,750.95.

The winner was Leslie Juby — and while bragging rights were earned, the true winners were the local charities each constestant were playing for. Every item collected during the spree goes directly to help stock pantry shelves.

The Kane County Farm Bureau, the county’s largest agricultural organization, hosts the annual Shopping Spree as part of its ongoing commitment to hunger relief. Through programs such as Harvest for ALL, the Million Meal Challenge, and the 10,000 Gallon Challenge, Farm Bureau members have donated the equivalent of more than 2 million meals to local food pantries. The Shopping Spree highlights both the strength of local agriculture and the importance of supporting neighbors in need.
