Kane County Pet of the Week - Labubu
“When life grows cold, a dog will warm your soul." – Angie Weiland-Crosby, American author & Nature photographer
When Labubu, a 1-year-old white and cream shih tzu and his brother, Lafufu, came to Kane County Animal Control, they smelled pretty bad and looked even worse. Their fur was long, dirty and matted. They probably hadn't had a haircut or bath in several months.
More than likely, they were left behind by their former owners for some reason or another. Surviving on instinct alone, they made their way toward a very busy road near a large highway looking for food, shelter or someone to take notice of their plight.
After they were safe within the confines of KCAC, some of the large matts were immediately removed and then we allowed them to convalesce for a day or so before giving them a proper grooming. It was fun to watch the many clumps of fur fall away like leaves from a tree during an autumn storm.
The final results of the grooming sessions revealed two adorable Shih Tzus born to live as spoiled members of a family receiving as much love and cuddles as possible.
They're not supposed to spend their days foraging for food or living under stairwells to stay out of the rain and snow. They're supposed to get dressed up in little outfits and smell beauteous and exquisite. (Okay, maybe not the getting dressed up part.) They're supposed to give kisses and be besties with everyone in the home, sharing their very short lives with their very special people.
Labubu loves playing with squeaky soft toys, catching them in his mouth and then letting staff take it out to throw once again.
As much as the two were found running together, there is no need for them to get adopted together. In fact, Labubu seems more entranced with other dogs and probably could learn a lot from having an older dog in the home.
His energy level can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. He isn't great on a leash because he tends to jump and pull. His new family should probably consider signing him up for a training class or two.
It will be the perfect time for both he and his forever family to spend quality time together so they can grow into besties with their very special people.
