Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Zina
“Every white hair is one day of experience in being the very best friend you've ever had." – Jaymi Heimbuch, wildlife conservation photographer, writer, instructor, trained naturalist
Best friends come in all forms, shapes and sizes.
Your BFF can be a cat or a dog, a bird or a fish. Best friends can walk upright on two feet or walk beside you on all fours. They can fly around your home and perch on your shoulder or swim to the surface to greet you every morning.
They meow or bark or chirp or squawk or blow bubbles or whinny. Actually, some besties don't need to say anything at all. All they need to do is look into each other's eyes, or lay their head on someone's lap, or just be there during the times when no one else shows up.
And so it will be with Zina, a sweet 9-year-old fawn and white Bassett Hound-mix who was surrendered by her owner due to allergies in the family. She's looking for a forever home, where she can become someone's very best friend forever.
It doesn't take much imagination to realize how much Zina was taken by surprise when she was first surrendered at KCAC. She more than likely had already settled on spending her golden years catching up on her naps in front of a window and taking slow walks in the evening with her forever family, her best friends.
Unfortunately, that idyllic life wasn't in the cards.
Not one to stay down forever, however, Zina keeps happy by surrounding herself with positive people and toys. Her favorite game is playing fetch with tennis balls, but nothing beats hanging out with the kennel staff. Zina definitely enjoys the comradery of people.
Other dogs don't seem to bother her. In fact, she seems to take them in stride, even allowing them to sniff her. And, as long as they don't ruffle her feathers too much, she's stays pretty laid back. Even if other dogs are a bit rambunctious, Zina will maintain her composure and calmly walk away.
Overall, Zina is a very laid-back dog, easy going and extremely loveable. She loves people and is willing to show off how she can “sit" and “shake."
The fact that she is older, of course, immediately gives her Queen Bee status in her future forever home. According to the unwritten rules of BFF's everywhere, Zina can expect to be “spoiled and pampered for the rest of her life."
