Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Meet Alice
“Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job." – Franklin P. Jones, American journalist, humorist, public relations executive
She's all about the butt-wiggle, especially when she's in her happy zone and getting lots of pets from the kennel staff.
She might be a little hesitant, a little cautious in new situations, but she's learning to push through those insecurities. When she's feeling the good vibrations, she will lean on whoever she's with and roll over to get her daily fill of belly-rubs. That's how you know Alice, a spayed 5-month-old black and white German Shepherd Dog-mix, is feeling comfortable.
Because of her age, Alice will definitely need training, especially when she's on a leash. She's not real sure what to do when she's on the other end of one. She either tangles herself up or just refuses to walk. Training will give her the confidence she needs to navigate her way through each new challenge, as well as give her a person to bond with.
Toys don't seem to interest her at all. She much prefers to interact with humans so she can get a few more petting sessions in rather than spend her time chewing on a toy.
Oh, and by the way, she really likes other dogs. When meeting another canine for the first time, she gets very excited, even jumping and twirling while she's on her leash.
Maybe she could even get up enough courage to go sniff another dog as long as they were cool, calm and collected and just wanted to be her best friend.
Eventually, she will go up to them, give them a sniff, and then allow them to sniff her all over while she patiently waits for a cue to play. After that, she's all about getting the most out of the day as possible, which means pretty much running, jumping and acting like a puppy!
Oh, and don't forget those belly rubs!
