Kane County Animal Control Pet of the Week - Spezi
“If man could be crossed with a cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat." – Mark Twain, author, humorist
Her name is Spezi.
It might seem a little strange to pronounce at first because it actually is the brand name of a German soft drink, one made with cola and orange soda. It's usually found in most German-speaking countries, as well as more recently in limited areas of the United States.
Putting all that aside, however, Spezi, a 1-year-old, spayed, tortie Domestic Shorthair, wants to let you know that when she arrived at KCAC, she didn't even have a name other than “stray."
She was almost a baby herself, a little under a year old and on the verge of becoming a momma of five kittens. She was a good mom, too. She stayed with them, nursed them and prepared them to meet the outside world. Three of her babies have already been adopted.
She also wants you to know not to put too much stock in her pictures taken while she was pregnant. She's been working at getting her girlish figure back after delivering all her babies, but, as all new mothers know, it's not as easy as it might seem.
Although she can be a bit shy at times, especially when meeting other cats, she has shown curiosity toward other felines, so we encourage her new parents to take the slow route when introducing her to another cat in the home.
Give Spezi a safe space to call her own with her own litter box, water and food bowls. Share towels with each other's scent on it before bringing Spezi and the other cat together for supervised play dates. And don't forget to rub her ears to help her relax. She really enjoys that.
It's Spezi's turn now, to get that attention she never had when her name was “stray," when she lived on the streets and every day was a struggle.
So, silly name or not, it's her turn now to be front and center to find her forever home.
KCAC Pupdate
Congratulations to Alice, the black and white, 5-month-old German Shepherd Dog-mix, that likes belly rubs and wiggles her butt when she's in her “happy zone!"
Alice doesn't live at KCAC anymore! (Can you guess the reference to a 1974 film?) She not only found her forever home, but it looks as though she will be doing some travelling with her new family, as well.
Everyone was so excited to bring her into the family! And we are so excited for you, Alice!
