Geneva Artist Charles Cassell Donates Watercolor Collection to Kane County
Kane County has received a generous donation of seven original watercolor paintings from Geneva resident Charles Cassell. The collection, titled “Bridging the Fox,” depicts the historic bridges connecting communities along the Fox River and will be displayed at the Kane County Government Center for staff and visitors to enjoy.
Cassell, a retired architect and longtime watercolor enthusiast, has generously shared his artistic talents throughout his career, donating numerous works to friends, family, and local fundraisers.
Cassell earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Illinois and began his architectural career with a three-year internship at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago. He went on to serve 35 years as a partner at Burnidge Cassell Associates, Architects, in Elgin, where he designed remarkable public buildings with meticulous attention to detail—a skill that now informs his watercolor work.
A self-taught artist, Cassell began exploring watercolor painting after retiring in 2003, focusing on historic homes and landmarks in the Fox Valley area. His work has been exhibited in numerous juried art shows, won awards and is on display in many public and private buildings throughout Kane County.
Since moving to the GreenFields of Geneva Retirement Community three years ago, Cassell has combined his interests in architecture, watercolor, and local history, creating works in partnership with the Elgin, St. Charles, Geneva, and Batavia History Museums.
“Kane County is proud to accept this gift on behalf of our community,” said Corinne Pierog, Kane County Board Chairman. “Charles Cassell’s work enriches our cultural and artistic heritage and gives residents and visitors an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of our historic bridges and buildings.”
