Elgin K-9 Gage Dies After Battle With Cancer

The Elgin Police Department announced Tuesday (June 19, 2018) via Facebook that K-9 Gage died on May 26 after a long-fought battle with cancer.

“The delay in publicly announcing his passing is out of respect and by request of his partner, Officer Kite,” Interim Police Chief Bill Wolf said.

After serving the Elgin community for more than 11 years, Gage retired from the Police Department in March 2017, on his 13th birthday.

“Our condolences are extended to Officer Kite and his family who cared for Gage for more than 12 years.” Wolf said. “Elgin is definitely a better place because of Gage and his contributions. He is remembered as a beloved member of this department and is dearly missed.

“Thank you for your service, Gage.”
